The Columbus Women’s Rugby Football Club (WRFC) has existed in some form for over ten years. Prior to our present team, there had been an Ohio State Women's team. The "OLD" team had the nickname of the "Iron Ovaries." Our present club was founded in 1991 by Lisa "Ferg" Ferguson (an ex-player from O.U.), and by Lynn "Smitty" Smith (a player from the "Old Ohio State Team"). Other ex-players from the old OSU team were invited to help create this team. They were Lynn Batcheck and Deb Allison. Lynn Batcheck eventually became our Referee before her retirement. Deb Allison became Head Coach and Scrumhalf until her retirement in 1998.

In 2001, the Columbus WRFC merged with the Scioto Valley Rugby Football Club and became the Scioto Valley Women's RFC. Our colors also changed from red and black to orange, green, and black.

Our constant goal has been to gain a commanding presence among women’s sports programs in the Midwest. Currently, we rank competitively in Division II of the Midwest Rugby Union and have defeated many challenging opponents.
