SVRFC Email Notice: 07/21/08. Scioto Valley Qualifies for Sevens Nationals In the hot, humid days between spring and fall, many ruggers are content to relax and repair their bodies. Many view it as the off-season. Others keep playing. Others know that it not the off-season; it is sevens season.

Through the heat they trained and during those precious summer weekends they played. And it has paid-off. Scioto Valley is going to sevens nationals.

Valley qualified Saturday after placing second at the Midwest championship in Iowa City. Valley entered the tournament seeded first but, in the championship match, fell to the defending national champions, the Chicago Lions.

Valley took an early lead but it slowly slipped away until the Lions finally overtook Valley in the final minute of the extended 20-minute match.

The national tournament takes place August 9-10 in San Francisco. Until then, Scioto Valley intends to focus on improving their fitness in order to excel not only in seven-minute halves, but also the 10-minute-half championship match.

Valley qualified for nationals most recently in 2006, where they finished sixth.
